Heavy Security at the Entrance of the Abia Assembly as They Reconvene this Week.

It was reported that security officers, including members of the Nigerian Police Force, were seen on Sunday at the entrance to the Abia State House of Assembly before lawmakers return to session this week.

During a visit to the Assembly complex on Sunday evening, our journalist spotted an extraordinary number of armored personnel carriers (APC) and stern-looking security agents mounted.


Reason for the high security presence, the PPRO of Abia State Command, CSP Geoffrey Ogbonna, stated that he was unaware of the security draft.

Remember that the Assembly was recently mired in a leadership crisis following the alleged impeachment of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, on May 2, 2023?

In response, the Speaker suspended and removed his deputy, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu, and eight other MPs who were involved in the alleged impeachment.

Both the Speaker and his deputy have insisted on remaining in their positions.
